    Position:  Environmental Project Engineer, Remote
    Posted:   08/05/2026

    SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

CAPE is seeking a field-oriented Project Geologist/Engineer to support environmental remediation projects nationwide. This mid-level role combines hands-on fieldwork, GIS and geospatial data management, environmental data evaluation, and technical writing. The successful candidate will be comfortable working at active project sites, coordinating with subcontractors and field crews, and producing clear, defensible technical plans and reports. Candidates with direct remediation experience - including remedial action, system operation, soil excavation, groundwater treatment, or similar implementation work - are strongly preferred over candidates whose experience is limited to site investigation.

    • Lead and support field activities for environmental remediation projects, including soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air sampling; drilling oversight; lithologic logging; monitoring well installation or abandonment; and remedial system operation and monitoring.
    • Work safely and effectively on active construction and remediation sites, including coordination with subcontractors, drillers, equipment operators, trades, and project field teams.
    • Use GIS, GPS, and related geospatial tools to collect, manage, analyze, and present field data. Develop maps, figures, and spatial products using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Field Maps, Trimble or comparable platforms.
    • Prepare and review high-quality technical documents such as work plans, sampling and analysis plans, quality assurance or quality control plans, field reports, remedial action reports, construction completion reports, regulatory submittals, and proposal content.
    • Evaluate environmental and laboratory data; prepare tables, graphs, figures, and statistical summaries; and communicate findings and recommendations to project teams and clients.
    • Support remedial design and planning, field implementation, quality control, project scheduling, cost estimating, and subcontractor management.
    • Interpret field conditions and project data, identify issues, and make timely recommendations with support from senior technical staff as needed.
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, scientists, and geologists to meet client requirements, budgets, schedules, and CAPE technical quality standards.
    • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued development of field procedures, data-management practices, and technical deliverables.

    SALARY:
$75,000 -$105,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    TRAVEL:
Up to 50% on an annual basis

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, engineering, or a closely related field.
    • Approximately 3-8 years of relevant professional experience in environmental consulting, remediation, geoscience, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated willingness and ability to spend significant time in the field, work outdoors in varying conditions, support early starts or extended field days, and travel approximately 50% depending on project needs.
    • Hands-on experience supporting environmental field programs, including work around drilling operations, excavations, heavy equipment, sampling activities, or remediation systems.
    • Practical GIS experience, including ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Field Maps, and experience with GPS data collection, processing, mapping, or geospatial data management.
    • Strong technical writing skills, with demonstrated experience preparing clear, organized, and defensible environmental plans, reports, field documentation, or regulatory deliverables.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
    • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to satisfy project-specific background, badging, medical, and physical requirements.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Direct environmental remediation experience, particularly remedial action implementation, soil or groundwater treatment, remediation system operation and maintenance, excavation oversight, or construction quality control. Experience limited primarily to investigation or assessment is less preferred.
    • Experience supporting federal environmental projects for USACE, NAVFAC, AFCEC, EPA, or other Department of Defense agencies.
    • Knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, federal and state environmental regulations, and environmental quality assurance/quality control requirements.
    • Experience with Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, Surfer, EnviroData, Adobe Illustrator, statistical software, or environmental modeling tools.
    • Professional certification or progress toward certification, such as GIT, PG, EIT, PE, or GISP.
    • Current Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification issued through USACE or NAVFAC.
    • Current 40-hour HAZWOPER training and annual refresher; additional safety, first aid/CPR, or hazardous materials training is beneficial.
    • Master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
