    Cape Environmental Management Inc (CAPE) is seeking a Staff Scientist/Environmental Technician to support a Fence-to-Fence Environmental Services Contract for the Air Force Civil Engineering Center at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station (CMSFS), Peterson Space Force Base (PSFB), Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB), and US Air Force Academy (USAFA).

    This position involves management of generated hazardous waste, storage of hazardous materials, State/Federal Regulatory Agency compliance inspections & reporting, plan/permit updates, shipment documentation, hazardous waste profiling, federal/contractor personnel training, waste minimization/recycling program compliance.

    Cape maintains a 5-year contract with AFCEC (currently in year #4) to provide these-types of environmental compliance activities and the in-person position is based at PSFB, with travel required between PSFB and SSFB; supporting efforts may be required CMSFS and USAFA as well. As components of this contract, a Cape team manages hazardous waste, hazardous materials, air quality, water and stormwater quality, petroleum oil and lubricants, solid waste, environmental management system, toxic substances control act compliance at these four federal installations.

    The position requires daily client and team communication and coordination, strong communication and organizational skills, database management knowledge and experience, strong work ethic, compliance with strict safety protocols and requirements, and an individual capable of working autonomously with minimal oversight.

    SALARY:
    $70,000-$95,000

    TRAVEL:
    This is a position based at PSFB, with travel required between PSFB and SSFB. Supporting efforts may be required at CMSFS and USAFA as well. The ideal candidate will reside in COS Area and commute to/from PSFB daily.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree with six (6) years of experience in Hazardous Waste/Hazardous Materials Management
    • High School Diploma and relevant certification for work to be performed +16 years’ experience minimum
    • AAS Degree + 14 years’ experience minimum
    • Three (3) years’ experience working in a Microsoft Office environment with strong Word and Excel skills
    • HAZWOPER 40-hour worker training with annual 8-Hour Refresher
    • CDPHE Hazardous Waste Management training, or other RCRA Training/Certification
    • DoT Hazardous Material Ground Shippers Certification
    • Proficiency using Air Force EESOH-MIS Hazardous Materials & Hazardous Waste Modules
    • The job may require additional job-related certification and/or training during the term of employment
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Able to understand and carefully follow both written and oral guidance/instructions
    • Resourceful and self-motivated
    • Able to handle multiple assignments on timely basis to meet regulatory agency and internal government deadlines
    • Able to work independently with exceptional attention to detail
    • Able to develop new workflows and solutions to meet specific project needs
    • Able to understand and interpret map data in context (i.e., 2D/3D distribution of point data, relative magnitude of point data, potentiometric surfaces, heat maps)
