    Mid-Level Research Engineer - Building Science and Construction Research

    Home Innovation Research Labs is seeking a construction industry professional with an engineering or architecture degree to join our Building Science Division.  This person must have construction experience and will be responsible for research related project work in the areas of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, cost evaluation, technology innovation, and sustainability in residential construction.

    Requirements:

    • 5-10 years of relevant experience (minimum).
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture
    • Knowledge of building science and construction technologies for single-family and multifamily applications.
    • Knowledge of disaster resistance and structural performance of residential systems.
    • Knowledge of sustainability and rating systems for building performance.
    • Practical knowledge and experience with residential building industry and construction.
    • Strong analytical and evaluation abilities with excellent attention to detail.
    • Strong communication skills (ability to write well and provide updates to clients)

    Additional preferred set of skills:

    • Knowledge of sustainable principles and green rating systems.
    • Knowledge of data analysis and presentation skills.
    • Knowledge of high-performance construction practices a plus
    • Knowledge and experience with energy modeling of multifamily a plus.
    • Publications in technical journals and/or industry/trade periodicals is a plus.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with research and analysis for government and industry clients with focus on advancing construction technology in the areas of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, durability, sustainability, and high-performance buildings.
    • Assist with analytical and experimental research for high performing buildings.
    • Assist with the evaluation of technologies in residential construction
    • Evaluate cost of building code and regulatory changes based on construction practices.
    • Interpret and apply model building codes and determine equivalents.
    • Provide drafting skills using AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, SolidWorks, or similar software.
    • Experience writing technical reports and other technical periodicals.
    • Provide technical assistance and guidance concerning the building code and energy programs.
